Prep School

Highfield is co-educational up to the age of seven years. However, after this age, research informs us that girls positively thrive in a single-gender setting. At Highfield Prep, the single-gender environment allows girls’ learning and progress to move forward with a stereotype-free ethos.

“WE ARE EXPERTS IN GIRLS’ EDUCATION AND PROVIDE AN EXCEPTIONAL PLATFORM FOR GIRLS TO DEVELOP SELF-BELIEF AND CONFIDENCE TO SUCCEED.”

Both the curriculum and the teaching are girl-focused and our girls have endless opportunities to continue discovering their talents. The all-girls environment provides opportunities to explore and succeed in every subject and activity. Our teaching makes use of the strategies girls find most helpful.

In a ‘girls only’ environment, we can focus all of our time, resources, attention and energy to the unique needs of girls. We have the flexibility to tailor teaching strategies, programs, and experiences to match girls’ interests, challenges and learning needs in a setting where girls hold all the positions of responsibility. All the scientists are girls; all the mathematicians are girls. There are no glass ceilings and no assumptions about what girls like or prefer because no one is saying ‘that subject, that sport is for boys’. Highfield girls leave us with confidence in STEAM-related skills along with great self-confidence in their all-round academic performance.

Fundamentally, we are specialists in teaching girls; we understand how they learn, how they play, how they develop friendships, and what they need to be successful. This is something we are very proud of at Highfield Preparatory School.

Academics

In the Prep school, highly qualified, engaging and inspiring subject specialists teach Maths, English, Languages, Science, Computing, Music, Drama, Art & DT, PE and Sport. Opportunities to enrich the curriculum through trips, workshops, extracurricular and interdisciplinary lessons are actively sought and planned for.

Although we are guided by the National Curriculum in our academic planning, we are not restricted to it, particularly in Years 5 and 6 as the girls prepare for Senior School entrance examinations and the 11+.
